Himanta Biswa Sarma was sworn in for a second consecutive term as Chief Minister of Assam at a grand ceremony in Guwahati on Tuesday, May 12, marking the continuation of the BJP-led NDA government in the state.  The oath was administered by Governor Lakshman Prasad Acharya at the Veterinary College ground in Khanapara, in the presence of top national leaders including Prime Minister Narendra Modi and senior BJP leadership.  The event formally ushered in the NDAâs third straight term in Assam since 2016, reinforcing its strong electoral mandate in the state.  Along with Sarma, four ministers also took oath, Rameshwar Teli, Ajanta Neog, Atul Bora, and Charan Boro, reflecting the continued BJP-led alliance cabinet structure in the new government.
Following the formal notification of the results of the Assam Elections 2026, Himanta Biswa Sarma tendered his resignation as Chief Minister along with the Council of Ministers to Governor Lakshman Acharya at Lok Bhawan.
